about the victims are beginning to emerge. nbc's michelle franzen standing by in newtown, connecticut. michelle, the names have been released. i understand that all six of the adults who were killed were women and all of the children are between the ages of 6 and 7 years old. is that correct? >> reporter: yes, that is correct. most of them, we're told, in the first grade. and certainly, we are getting a little bit more details on some of the names, of course, and soon to be the faces of these teachers, as well as the students, whose lives were taken so violently, so abruptly that school morning, yesterday morning. as you mentioned, we heard the names that have come out, but we've also heard details about the shooting and many seasoned workers, the medical examiner, the officers, the first responders here, also needing to have, you know, assistance and have counseling during this time, to give you an idea of just what a situation unfolded in that elementary school. we also have been, throughout the community here today, and there is a big outpouring of emotion, as well as reaching out.

. everyone is shocked about the loss of the much loved and valued colleague. >> nbc's michelle kosinski is live. what else have we learned about the victim? >> not much. the hospital said that she worked there at king edward the hospital for more than four years. she cared for hundreds of patients. but that's really about it. the hospital isn't even saying the manner of death but according to reports here in the uk, multiple sources say she took her own life and was found on the hospital premises this morning. they tried to revive her but unsuccessfully. the hospital interestingly said that they have been supporting her through this difficult time and telling us that she was having a tough time. we don't know exactly why or what else was going on in this woman's life. but it appears that she did commit suicide on the grounds of the hospital. anyone else who worked with her but people described as stunned, that the news is staggering. one of the things that this prank phone call really highlighted, aside from the fact that it was a breach of security, was the kindness and unsuspecting na

and apparently at that decideded to take his own life. >> what else, michelle can you tell us about those final moments before adam lanza decided to kill himself? >> reporter: well, those are certainly the detailsa we're hoping that we'll learn about, perhaps at this press conference or in the coming days, exactly the length that adam lansa had to this school, in fact what happened, perhaps they'll have a little bit better timeline. when first responders and law enforcement arrived on scene, they arrived to a very active shooter situation, a very chaotic situation and of course what was left behind is just devastating in terms of what they had to cope and deal with in terms of not just the emotions of this, but also processing that crime scene. so that they're say whether take the most time. >> the stories of heroism that happened inside sandy hook elementary school. the teacher who for all intents and purposes risked her life in an attempt to save the lives of her children there. and i do want to call our viewer's attention to the left side of the screen here, president obama who is at andrews
